~~Activities~~
SECOND SUNDAY 
Hosted 10  programs including dinner and faith-based activities, with as many as 100 developmentally disabled guests and many church volunteers

Family Promise  
Served as dinner and overnight hosts for 
three separate weeks, 
with church volunteers providing  a safe, warm and welcoming emergency shelter and evening meal for homeless families with children. 
Family Promise-Hike for Hope
A team of 20 brave folks participated in the annual Hike for Hope fund-raising event, generating $1,500 from generous donations of our church family and friends.  
Pumpkin Patch  
Generated over $16,738 for the  Farmington, New Mexico Navajo farmers, helping to fuel job growth  where the unemployment rate is 45%. Over the years,  we have raised over $178,000 for the Native American farmers, 

All Wrapped Up  Adopt-a-FamilyWe 'adopted '  31  struggling individuals   who gave us their needs-lists for Christmas.  In addition to meeting  their  gift requests (warm clothing, blankets and household goods, toys and games, etc.) , we gave $1,600 in Gift Certificates for these families!

Annual Children’s Toy and Clothing Collection –Donated over 90 toys, plus lots of warm winter clothing

Donations

First Congregational Church of River Edge raises and donates funds to local, denominational, and global charities.  In addition to funds raised by requests to the congregation for specific causes, a portion of all church annual pledges is allocated to community outreach.

..To Local Charities including:

Food Pantry– Monthly Sunday collection allowed us to donate  $4,700 to local food pantries, in addition to food collections for Thanksgiving and Souper Bowl Sunday.

 

Other Charities -In addition, donated over $3,000 to other charities, focusing primarily on charities to help children and their families and the developmentally disabled.  Recipients included:

  

..to Global Outreaches

Church World Service KitsServed as the local Depot for collections of emergency supplies such as Hygiene Kits, School blankets and Kits,Emergency Clean-up Buckets.  

Our church also donated generously to this outreach, particularly the school and health kits.


Church World Service - Over $700 in donations to the Blanket Fund


Sponsoring Children  Sponsoring three children, one from India, one from the Philippines and one high school student from Haiti for whom we provided a full scholarship  a high school scholarship (education in Haiti is not free.)


Water Mission - Provides sustainable sources of safe water in post-disaster communities, such as Puerto Rico after the hurricane, or in impoverished rural areas of the world where walking for clean water may take all day.

..to Denominational Outreaches

One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) –Donated  over $2,000in 2019.    OGHS aids individuals and communities suffering the effects of natural disasters, wars or other severe economic hardships anywhere in the world.


Christmas Fund – Just  $1,179  donated to this Fund through our Christmas in July event.  The Christmas Fund aids retired clergy who have sacrificed income potential throughout their lives by choosing to serve the church.  The fund also assists church clergy or other church employees who are struggling financially due to natural disaster,  illness or other similar events.
